March 2-14, 2019 Back to Georgetown

March 2, 2019
Left Long Island around 8am and arrived in Georgetown around 1:30pm.
Along the way, Steve caught a Barracuda and he thinks a Blue Jack fish.  Nothing to eat from these fish.

Not the greatest susnset tonight

It is super hot.  You really have to stay in the shade otherwise you would cook.   We went for a dinghy ride before dinner and saw Brad and Julia from Alizarin boat where back in the harbour.  They invited on the boat for a drink.  Their daughter and fiancé Will have been with them visiting for 2 weeks.   They told us that Sharon and Rick  from Orzan also  returned  to Georgetown but they were not on their boat when we stopped by to say hi.

Came back to the boat to have burgers and bean salad before watching a couple of episodes of Designated Survivor and then bed.

Monument at Monument Beach
We could see our boat from the monument
The day started with pancakes for breakfast.  We changed our anchor area in a more protected area nearby.
We then went hiking to the monument at Monument Beach.  What a gorgeous view.

We met Tom walking towards the beach who we found out during our conversation that he knew Dr. Jim.  He explained to us that the stone monument was built to signal ships that salt was available for sale.  There was a time where ships did not have refrigeration therefore they needed to come on shore to get salt.

Osprey kite

Steve flying his kite

When we got back to the boat, Steve decided to fly the Osprey kite.  It worked really good.

Local kids

Around 4pm, we met Rick & Sharon along with their son Chris and his wife Diana and grand daughter Hanna at the beach.  Later Brad and Julia along with their daughter Amelia and her fiancé Nick.  It was nice seeing everyone again.
We talked to a local builder, Forman.  Very nice man.
It was funny because some local kids where playing with Hanna's (Rick & Sharon's grand daughter) toys and Rick had to go fetch them before leaving.

We dropped Amelia off at her parents boat.  Had a great barbecue chicken meal and watch a couple more episodes of Designated Survivor before going to bed.  What a fun day!

March 4, 2019
The morning started right.  Got my exercise in.  Steve went to get water as the Cruiser's Net was broadcasting at 8am.
The water was nice and calm to cross on the dinghy.  When he returned with the jugs of drinking water, he figured he would make water for showering.  The high pressure pump to the membrane has blown a hole so we had to order the part and have it shipped since no one in Georgetown could help us.  We will get it from Electromaax in about a week after paying over $300 for parts and shipping.
We bought a few groceries while we were in town.
After lunch, Steve went snorkeling while I sat in the dinghy and enjoyed the wonderful weather.  There are a few mooring available to tie up your dinghy to snorkel in the conservation area. Steve saw turtles and a bunch of fish.

When we returned to the boat, he decided to go get more water in the two five gallons jugs we have since he was already wet from swimming.  When he returned, he took a nice hot shower.
Spaghetti was on tonight's menu. What a gorgeous sunset.  We blew the conch in honor of my sister's birthday today as per her request.  The wind just died which meant mosquito at dusk.
Watch a couple of episodes of  Designated Survivor before bedtime.

Loading dock
What a gorgeous day!  To start the day, we went to get 10 gallons of water and then dropped off our laundry.  This time we decided to have the Laundromat wash and fold it for us.  The cost is only $20 for 2 loads. We walked around town to get familiar with the Immigration Office.  We will have to renew our visa before leaving Georgetown around April 1st.  We also watched them load ships.

Alizarin
We saw Alizarin leaving.  Brad and Julia were bringing their kids back to the airport.  They visited them for 2 weeks.
The water was so calm that I went kayaking after breakfast.  Steve bought the dinghy on the beach to glue a ring which came off a couple of years ago while we were towing it.
I later cut Steve's hair and we both took a shower before going back to pick up our laundry at 3pm.
We also purchased a few tomatoes and peppers from a local vendor before going back to the boat.

Monster boat arrived
We decided to go eat out tonight so we took the dinghy across to Splash Bar & Grill.  I had a Mahi Mahi burger while Steve had a bacon hamburger.  Since there was Wi-Fi, we managed to Face time a few family and friends.

We made it back to the boat on time to watch another gorgeous sunset.  Read, watched a movie before going to bed.

March 6, 2019
Steve went to get water before the seas got rough.  We also made arrangements to order the stainless steel swaged replacement part for the high pressure pump.  It is quite the set up.  We ordered the parts from Electromaax from Beamsville.  They have it shipped to a specific address in Ft. Lauderdale.  We had to call the company in Florida and give them our credit card number before they ship it.  They ship to Georgetown every Wednesday so we unfortunately missed the deadline for this week.  It goes to a place in Georgetown called DoeBoi who are brokers.  They will have it processed thru Customs and we will pick it up next Wednesday and pay them the duty.
Once we get that part, we will be able to make water again.
Margarita time

The winds really picked up today as predicted.  One of the catamaran's anchor was dragging and they had to move several times.  It was quite entertaining to watch.  Steve had to go to the bow to let them know not to anchor near our anchor. It was a day to paint and read.
Before dinner, Steve surprised me with a margarita while I was serenating him with my guitar.

We had a nice stuffed chicken with spinach and feta along with potatoes, carrots and a salad for dinner.
Watched another couple of episodes before heading to bed.

March 7, 2019
While having our coffee this morning, the monster boat named Adastra left the port.  It was so quiet as she motored out the harbor.  It sure looked like a space ship.
After breakfast, we decided to go across in the dinghy to get groceries.  We sure got wet coming back.  The winds picked up and so did the waves.

Crab trying to get away from me
After lunch, we explore another trail.  Can't believe how many trail lead to different beaches.  We must of walked for an hour.  Nice way to get our exercise.  The breeze from the ocean was so nice while we found some unique shells.
Came back to the boat to read and paint.  Seeing that there was a nice breeze going thru the boat, I decided to put the oven on and make Sheppard's pie and brownies  for dinner.  Steve was pleased.
After dinner, we watched several episodes before bedtime.

March 8, 2019
Yesterday Steve complained that he felt like he had water in his ear.  Well this morning he woke up with an earache.  We wanted to address it quickly.  After breakfast, he went to fill up the propane tank across the bay and hitchhiked afterwards to a pharmacy to get eardrops. While he was gone, I decided to start getting the boat ready for my guest who will be coming in a weeks time.
After lunch, we went to town to get a few groceries.  The water wasn't as rough as yesterday however the winds .
Later, we just relaxed.  Steve's ear is feeling better after taking the drops. Yeah!

Natalie & Nicole celebrating in Key West
Happy 40th Birthday to our wonderful daughters Natalie and Nicole.  How ironic....they are both celebrating  their birthday on a boat they rented in Key West for the weekend.

Looked like this boat washed up to shore
After lunch, Steve and I decided to take a ride in our dinghy to Chat N Chill.  On our way there, we approached a boat which we thought washed up to chore.  This guy from Montreal purposely did that in order to work on the bottom of his boat.  He has a twin keel which is design to sit on the bottom at low tide.
At Chat N Chill, we watched people playing volleyball and went for a small walk

Steve knows how to make a great margarita
Back at the boat, Steve made us margaritas.  He sure knows how to make a good one.  For dinner we had hamburgers and then we decided to go to the Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival which happens every year.  We debated whether to go since the wind was starting to pick up and we had to go across the harbor.  What the hell!  Off we went.

Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival
It wasn't the best decision we did.  Coming back in the dark, the wind was even stronger and the waves higher.  It is sure different when you only have a flashlight to guide you.  We made it however we were soaked.  After we changed, we watched a couple of episodes of Designated President before going to bed.

March 10, 2019
After breakfast, Steve took the dinghy across the bay to get 10 gallons of water.  This morning, it was announced on the cruiser's net that a retired emergency doctor and his wife, who is a nurse, were  giving a presentation on first aid for cruisers. They also live on a boat named Sea Belle.  I didn't want to miss it so we dinghy to the  Chat n Chill beach for the noon starting time.  It was very interesting since he specifically targeted his audience who are all cruisers since there is no access to a hospital in the Bahamas unless you get air lifted.  He explained all the types of boat injuries from head to toe that most likely happen on a boat and explain when to seek emergency.
We were able to take a photo of the list of emergency equipment which they recommended to have on the boat.  The presentation lasted over 2 hours since he addressed many cruiser's questions.

Starry Night
On the way  back, we noticed  a couple on their boat anchoring in the shipping lane so we approached them to let them know.  How ironic!  It was someone that Steve knew from RHYC. (Hamilton).  Jane and Russ on Starry Night just arrived in Georgetown.  We later went to their boat for a drink and for Steve to get reacquainted.

Sharon & Rick from Orzan  came to our boat to let us know they returned to Georgetown.  They  dropped off their guest however were stuck at Emerald Marina because of the high winds.  We also noticed Alizarin have returned. They both are leaving for Long Island tomorrow.
Stir fry for dinner and we finished watching the last episode of the Designated President before bedtime.

March 11, 2019
After breakfast, Steve got 20 gallons of water today and filled up the diesel and fuel jugs.  We went for a 5 miles walk along the ocean side.  We really had to watch our step since parts of the trail was sharp coral.  Good thing I had my runners and Steve had his water shoes. Great exercise.

Huge Tree roots
So scenic

After lunch, I went kayaking while Steve listened to his blues music and read.  I also did some painting.
We went for a dinghy ride after the sunset.  The moon's smile is getting bigger and it is shining across the water.
Watch a movie before bedtime.

March 12, 2019
Steve made 3 runs to get waters across the bay today.  The water was super calm so it was perfect before the next front which is starting Wednesday.  It will be nice when we get the part for our water maker on Thursday.   We then went to the grocery store to start stocking up our provisions for when we get our guest on Friday.
When we returned it was so hot that Steve went for a swim off the boat.  I decided to kayak to the beach and then swim back from there.  You know it is hot when I go swimming.  As much as I love being around water, it takes everything for me to go in.  I swam 500 yards to the boat.  It actually felt really good.  We then showered off the back of the boat.

Our neighboring boat came back in their dinghy with lobster and fish.  Steve went over to ask them where they caught them.  He then went to see Croft, a local, with the charts to ask him specifically where he goes diving.  In their conversation, he told Steve that this weather is like their summer weather.  Usually it is not this hot.  He was explaining to Steve that there are more lizards and bugs also.  Interesting.

Since the water was so calm, before dinner, we went for a dinghy ride to see where Steve will be spear fishing with Brent, our son- in- law, when he comes.

What a gorgeous night.  It was funny because Steve just found out he actually has 6 stations on TV.  His eyes lit up.  The only thing is every time the boat swings we loose reception which is frustrating.  I downloaded a series "The Sinner" for us to watch this week.

 March 13, 2019
This morning we decided to head to town before we have our breakfast while the water was calm and it wouldn't be so busy.  What a great idea! We managed to dropped off our laundry.  The woman who does the laundry for us told us to come back around 1pm to pick it up.  Seeing that it was not busy, we did a few more groceries before the mad rush. We didn't get wet at all going back to the boat.
We cleaned the boat and fussed around before heading back.  You can see a front coming.  We managed to pick up our laundry and Steve picked up a couple cases of beer before it started down pouring. The problem was the water was getting rough and of course we managed to get wet.
Good thing we have a dry bag for our laundry.  I just love it when we get the laundry back all folded and clean.  Feels so good.
We collected rain water.  Why not take advantage of mother nature.  The winds picked up and now it is waiting it out for a couple of days.  Unfortunately, we won't be able to pick up the water maker part tomorrow morning so hopefully the winds won't be too horrific.

 March 14, 2019

Talk about a 20 to 30 gust of wind last night rocking you to sleep.  The boat rocked so much it actually rang the brass bell we have inside the boat a couple of times.  Again, our anchor was such a good investment.
Steve went in town after breakfast to finally pick up the water maker parts and a few groceries while I cleaned the boat. It sure isn't cheap to have something shipped.  We figured it cost an additional $150.00 to get it here besides the price of the item.  Yeah!  We can now make water again.  So much more convenient than hauling 10 gallons at a time across the Harbour. The only good benefit is that Steve would get his exercise.
Later in the afternoon, we decided to go back in town to pick up a few items for when our guest come tomorrow.   Not much selection at the grocery store at time. You have to take what is there.  Funny how one day the bread section is empty and then another day the produce section is bare.  It all depends what gets shipped and unpacked.  You almost have to go everyday to get everything by the end of the week.  We sure don't realize how easy we have it at home.
We had a great broccoli quiche.  We are ready for our guest tomorrow.
