February 8-11 2019 Big Guana Cay at Black Point

February 8, 2019
Left Staniel Cay at 9:00am and arrived at Big Guana Cay at Black Point at 11:45am. What a great sail it was.  We have never been here before so it will be fun exploring.

Adding water in the tank

Getting water from town
We went to the public docks and look around town.  The Laundromat here was probably one of the nicest in the Bahamas.  They had each 10 washer and dryers.  The town also has a small grocery store, a school and even provides free drinking water.  (donations are requested) so we  took of filling up our tank.

Later we came back into town and walked along the beach and noticed a blow hole and a cemetery where someone was 105 years old when they died.

Went to see a blow hole

Woman died at 105 years old

Along the beach, they had great rock formation where Steve and I had fun posing.  It was funny because when we came back to the dinghy, we realize the tides went down and the dinghy was almost out of the water.  We had to walk it into the water quite a distance.  So beautiful here and they have a lot to offer.  We would definitely come back here again.

Great rock formation

Forgot about low tides

We made pizzas for dinner and watch a movie.  On one of the beaches, someone was having a bomb fire. Another great day in the Bahamas.

The Laundromat has a deck with quite a view
After making French toast for breakfast, we decided to do laundry since they have one of the nicest and clean Laundromat in Bahamas.  They have 10 machines which worked out good since we had 2 loads to do.

We walked over Mrs. Payment (known as Lorraine's mom--Lorraine has a restaurant beside her house)to buy her homemade coconut and coconut raisin bread.  She welcomes you in her home and it is first come first serve although you can pre order if you need to.$7/loaf.  Guess that means French toast in the morning.
It is always so nice after we do the laundry and have clean everything.  This time helps us appreciate what we have a home.
We plan on staying here at least another night depending on the weather. Looks like we may not leave until Wednesday.

We went for a great walk and ended up at the beach where we laid there for a while.  It was so relaxing.

What a great day & view

Walked along the beach to pick shells
At 6pm, we met up with Sharon, Rick, Julia and Brad at Lorraine's café for a wonderful buffet.  It was so good except for the ride on the dinghy back to the boat was drenching.  That is all part of the package.

Another gorgeaous sunset

We tried watching a movie when we got back but where ready for bed.  After all, it was 9;30pm..

Our coffee press
The morning started off great with toasted homemade raisin bread which we bought yesterday.  Steve decided to make water as I was picking up the dishes.
The 3 parts which went in the water
I always dump the coffee grinds in the water after having our morning coffee from a French press to rinse the pot.  This morning as I was dumping the grinds, the top of the filter screw came off and one of the parts fell into the water.  I immediately yelled to Steve over the generator noise so that he could dive for it. I am not that good of a diver.  If we loose that part, there would be no coffee unless we used our electric coffee maker.  Luckily, he managed to find the part since the water is so clear.
The worse is, I continued to empty the grinds and forgot the other two parts where in the container.  Guess what?  The filter and the other part started going down separately.  Steve was not a happy camper as he was diving in the water to find the other two parts.  I sure do not make his life easy.  As I was trying to figure out what kind of material I could use to make a filter, Steve came back up with BOTH parts.  I was actually shocked and very thankful.  Needless to say, Steve screwed the part together tightly himself and continued to make water.  So glad he loves diving.

Anchored schooner
Sunset behind the clouds
We hopped into the dinghy to explore around the island however it started getting rough and we were getting wet.  As we got closer to this schooner, we realized it sure needed some TLC.
We spent the day reading, painting and playing guitar.  It was a relaxing day.  Had a great pork chops meal & watched a movie before going to bed.

Yummy…  We had toasted coconut bread this morning with our coffee.

Before going to bed every night , you have to make sure to close all your hatches and windows since it seems to rain during the night.  During the day it is beautiful and then when the sun is setting all of a sudden it clouds up and later rains.  Last night it really rained hard but Steve said he never heard it.
10am- Went for a long walk and followed a new trail which we haven’t seen yet.  We walked approximately 2 miles to a private beach area.  Why not….we decided to strip down and go swimming since we were both so hot.  It was so wonderful.  It is rare to find areas where you can swim with no one around.  We then walked to at Emerald Sunset Restaurant and had a light lunch.  What a great place and location.  Tours from Georgetown on high speed boats come down for a buffet lunch.  The place was packed

We got back to the boat around 2:30pm.  I did some painting while Steve read.  Brad picked up Steve and went to Rick’s boat to decide when to leave and where to anchor in the next couple of days.
Had dinner and watched a movie.  The boat was rocking and a rolling once again.
