January 4-7, 2019

January 4, 2019

10:40am- The GaYa is officially in the water and we are crossing the Ft Pierce Bridge heading to Riviera Beach.
We had to store and cover our truck at the marina

2:00pm- We reached Mike's 988 on the ICW at the St Lucie Inlet where we encountered strong cross currents. There were numerous boats at the crossroads channel where we hit bottom but managed to continue on. Apparently, shoalling is always a problem here due to the currents.

After 48.91 miles, we arrived at Riviera Beach Marina in the dark and stayed on the fuel dock for the night since the office was closed.  There is a new restaurant at the marina named Rafiki Tiki where Steve and I enjoyed a Margarita with our dinner to celebrate the start of our boating

We fueled up in the morning before moving GaYa from the fuel dock to N48 dock at the Riviera Beach Marina. Nicky, Lyla and Parker came to the boat for a visit.  The grand kids ended up sleeping over.

Enjoying this time

Duane and Steve

Spent the day with the grandkids.  Friends from North Palm, Donna and Duane visited us on the boat . What a great day!

Nicky and Donna
Steve and I ordered electric scooters to use during our trip.  Nicky drove me all the way to Fort Lauderdale to pick them up at a Dick's Sporting Good store.  Steve made sure to charge them since we are all excited to try them tomorrow.  Parker went back home with his mom while Lyla stayed another night on the boat.

Nicky on the Scooter
Lyla, Steve and I played around with our new scooter all morning.  I did a load of laundry and had fun with Lyla until Nicky picked her up around 1:00pm.  Of course her and Parker wanted to try out the new electric scooter.  We said our goodbyes since we leave to cross the gulf early tomorrow morning.

We filled the tanks with water and secured everything for our trip.  At 4pm, Duane and Donna  picked us up to go meet Dr. Jim for dinner.  It was a pleasant get together and it was nice catching up.  After feeling so stuffed, Duane dropped us off at the boat  as we bid adieu.
